Our History talks about us

In a small village in Nebbi District, families once relied on a nearby stream to water their gardens and feed their livestock. But over the past few years, the stream dried up. The rains became unpredictable. Crops failed. Hunger followed. Trees had been cut for firewood without replacement, wetlands were encroached upon, and no one had taught the children—or even the adults—how these actions contributed to the crisis.

This is not just a story of Nebbi. It is the story of many communities across Uganda, Africa, and the world. Climate change is no longer a distant threat. It is a daily reality—one made worse by lack of knowledge, environmental neglect, and inaction, especially at the community level.

The Life and Trees Sustainability Initiative is an environmental organisation dedicated to promoting tree planting, environmental education, and sustainable community action to create a climate - smart generation and build a greener, more resilient Ugnada.

The Life and Trees Sustainability Initiative was officially launched on Monday, 20th May 2025, in Wakiso District by His Grace, Archbishop Rapheal P’mony Wokorach, together with 13-year-old Melissa Adeline Binyavanga (Annex 1). The programme seeks to lay a strong and lasting foundation for the active involvement of children, youth, and communities in environmental stewardship across Uganda.
