The Life and Trees Sustainability Initiative is an environmental conservation organization dedicated to planting trees in every district of Uganda and beyond. By actively involving children and the youth, the initiative seeks to nuture positive mindset from an early age for long-term environmental sustainability. The tree planting was officially Launched on 20th May 2025 by His Grace, Rapheal P’mony Wokorach, the Archbishop of Gulu Diocese, together with 13-year-old Melissa Adeline Binyavanga, the Little Miss Tourism Uganda 2024/2025

Little Miss Tourism Uganda 2024 is a prestigious annual pageant that celebrated Uganda's rich cultural diversity and tourism potential. Melissa's advocacy for environmental conservation and the protection of Uganda's Tourism sites strongly aligns with the organization's core activities of tree planting and environmental education. In recognition of her passion and commitment, she was appointed Ambassador of the organisation for the period 2025-2028.

From Crisis to Action

In a small village in Nebbi District, families once relied on a nearby stream to water their gardens and feed their livestock. But over the past few years, the stream dried up. The rains became unpredictable. Crops failed. Hunger followed. Trees had been cut for firewood without replacement, wetlands were encroached upon, and no one had taught the children—or even the adults—how these actions contributed to the crisis.

Vision

To establish a greener, climate-resilient World by fostering tree planting and environmental education.

Mission

To engage children, the youth and every other stakeholder in tree planting, environmental conservation, and sustainability awareness for a climate-smart future.

The Need:

There is an urgent need to equip children and communities with the knowledge, tools, and values to fight climate change from the ground up.
Many children and youth today lack access to climate-smart education or platforms for meaningful action.

Our Solution:

The Life and Trees Sustainability Initiative is a children and youth-focused environmental programme that engages young people in tree planting, environmental education, and sustainability awareness in every district of Uganda.

Origin and Inspiration:

Life and Trees is the brainchild of Queen Melissa Binyavanga, Little Miss Tourism Uganda 2024/ 2025—a children and youth environmental program she passionately founded to inspire the next generation of eco-champions.
